A Saudi woman died while reading the Quran, leaving behind 11 children and 18 grandchildren, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old woman was studying at a Quran memorization centre in Makkah and had intended to memorize the whole holy book, Kabar said.
“On Friday, she turned her chair towards the Grand Mosque in Makkah and sat reading the Quran…after reading a few verses, she died,” the paper said.
“Her son said she died while her hand was gripping the holy book…a Moslem scholar told her family not to open her hand and keep the Quran with her.”
Kabar said the unnamed woman had planned to fly to the eastern region to visit her daughter on Saturday. It did not mention the reason for her death.
